Shadow Poses and Squirrels

Good morning CheeziJoggers,

It is half way through Week 2 and another run has bitten the dust.

Today’s run was brought by the letter S – Stretches, Sarah (Millican – my app coach), Squirrels and Shadow poses.

Do remember to stretch before and after your runs to minimise the risk of an injury and check out our “Big Day Tomorrow” blog which includes a video demonstrating some stretches for you. Please read the disclaimer accompaanying the video beforehand.

If you are new to running, you may well have suffered from some aches and pains since starting. Some new runners starting the programme experience calf pain or sore shins (sometimes known as shin splints).

Such aches can be caused by running on hard surfaces or by running in shoes that do not have enough foot and ankle support.

Always do the 5-minute warm-up walks as instructed by the app before each run, and check that your running shoes are offering good support.

Having completed 5 runs, I am now trying not to concentrate on the time left to run but instead focus on the beautiful surroundings.

Today I had the pleasure of witnessing a squirrel as he or she frolicked in the sunshine running up and down a tree and generally enjoying his or herself. It was certainly a welcome distraction during my brisk walk section, though I did wish I had the same amount of energy as that squirrel!

Whilst I was busy snapping away taking pictures I noticed the shadows being cast on the floor so did what any self-respecting CheeziFitter would do and adopted the “Freddie Pose” – luckily there was no-one around to witness my attempts at trying to take a photo whilst posing without dropping the phone!

Having fun whilst I run helps to keep me motivated and there will be more tips on how to keep motivated coming up in the nextt blog.

So, keep going everyone, you are all doing amazingly well and if you haven’t started yet or are thinking of starting, you can download the official C25K app via the NHS website HERE.

It will give you all the information you need together with hints, tips and stretching advice.

It’s never too late to start and can be completed at a time to suit you and your lifestyle.
