Spring has sprung and Run 3 done!

Good morning CheeziJoggers,


Week 1 is now finished for me; 3 runs have been completed and there are another 8 weeks left on the Couch to 5K programme.


The weather has certainly had a positive effect and when it is a beautiful day with blue skies and sunshine, the thought of another run doesn’t seem that bad a prospect.


It has been lovely seeing all your pictures, full of sunshine and smiles – do keep them coming.


Many of you are saying how great you feel after your run, even if you were not in the mood before you started and there could well be a reason for that....


Here comes the science bit! Physical exercise, e.g. running and dancing increases your heart rate and stimulates the production of endorphins. Endorphins are hormones which act as a “natural drug” and promote positive feelings making you feel more alert and happier. Endorphins can kick in during a work-out but more often than not afterwards, which is why we often get that euphoric feeling after exercising. This is sometimes referred to as a “runner’s high” and can be accompanied by a positive and energizing outlook on life.


So, if you don’t feel like running one day, remember that boost and sense of achievement you get after finishing, not to mention the encouraging words from your chosen coach, in my case Sarah Millican, whose warm northern tones feel like a virtual hug at the end of each run when she congratulates me on completing another session. Although, I do think my app must have a fault as when she suggests I have a snack, such as a banana she misses the word CAKE off the end of the sentence which I’m sure she meant to say 😂.


Having now successfully completed Week 1, I am now looking ahead to Week 2 and actually looking forward to the challenge. Good luck to everyone who are finishing their Week 1 runs and let’s grab hold of Week 2 and smash it!

Morning ladies! After I scoffed Ben and Jerry’s last night I thought I’d punish myself nice and early this AM! What a mist-aka to make-a! Running against the wind also not my wisest decision 😂 I’m pooped!

Done, thanks guys for the push, I really needed it today. Very emotional day for me, I lost my dad just over year ago and it would of been 73rd birthday today. I ran listening to some of his favourite tunes by Phil Collins, Jennifer Rush, Status Quo and Queen. I cried, I smiled and pushed my runs. I can say now I have completed the run I feel so much better. I do miss him x x x x

Just been out and completed run 3! 🥳 Found it more of a slog tonight and by the fifth run I was moving at a snail’s pace but I pushed through and did it. My favourite tune ‘Rhythm is a Dancer’ came on just at the right time to get me to the end! Just compared my pace on Strava from run 2 and it was quicker tonight so that has spurred me on to keep going. Not looking forward to the longer runs next week though. Sixty seconds seems an eternity sometimes! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🥵

Today's run was sponsored by 90's Britpop!

My legs felt heavy to begin with but the sunshine spurred me on.🌞🌞🌞

The BMW Ocean hill that I used to gilde up was really hard work today, and I told myself how I was going to get back to that level of fitness for the summer.

As I started to run along the embankment it was beautiful to see the sun reflecting off the water, just as "Good Enough " by Dodgy came on in my headphones.

Feeling energised, I decided to run a little further today, especially as the weather was so gorgeous.

I realised this was my longest run since October last year and I'm so pleased to be back…

So thats it week 1 completed. After a 12 1/2 hour night shift I was not feeling the love but knowing I was working all weekend this was my only opportunity. Home, trainers on and off I go!! Legs feeling like lead but I did manage to pick them up when needed 🤣 . Still not feeling the love but glad I did it. Couple of days rest and some sleep and week 2 here we come!! Feeling determined to do this!!
